Our Origins
Incurably Wonderful was established in 2021 with a heartfelt vision to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community specifically designed for adults living with chronic physical conditions and disabilities. Our founder, drawing from personal experiences as a patient, recognized a profound need for a dedicated haven where individuals could engage in a variety of social, educational, and physical activities tailored to their unique challenges and aspirations.
A Patient-Led Approach
At the core of Incurably Wonderful is a patient-led ethos that prioritizes the insights and experiences of those we serve. Every aspect of our organization is thoughtfully designed to reflect the needs and ambitions of our community. Our diverse team includes individuals who are either navigating similar health journeys or are passionate allies, ensuring that our activities are relevant, impactful, and genuinely resonate with our members.
Our Commitment to Empowerment
We are deeply committed to cultivating an environment where every individual can embark on meaningful journeys towards a more fulfilling and joyful life. At Incurably Wonderful, our focus extends to creating enriching opportunities that enhance overall well-being, foster lasting social connections, and support personal growth. All of our initiatives are shaped by the invaluable voices and experiences of our community members. Incurably Wonderful is a great place to meet people who suffer from chronic pain. It opens up a space for you to talk to people who really understand what you are going through. Before joining the group, I was lost; I was bedbound and hadn't left my home in 2 years due to the pain of fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression. I joined the online group and met lots of people like myself. I was no longer alone. I have since got myself out of bed. It's taken over a year. I now go out daily and have lost weight as well. I look forward to meeting some IW face-to-face activities. They look amazing. ~ K.M
“When I first attended Incurably Wonderful (IW) meetings three months ago, I was severely depressed. I could not have gotten off that dark space without IW”
~Patient (36 y.o.)“
I joined the 'Incurably Wonderful' family on the recommendation of my physiotherapist. I was feeling very isolated, and a burden to all, and the thought of joining any group filled me with anxiety. Still, I was also at a shallow point in my life. I needed to come out of my bubble. So, I went and was greeted and welcomed so warmly without judgement or pity. I found a place to share my aches and pains with people who similarly suffered chronic conditions. We have compassion and understanding for each other and feel free to finally share friendship, camaraderie, and learning from each other and from professionals on occasion. The support is always there for all who need it, empowering and inspiring us to keep going. And amazingly we can choose to participate in activities such as TaiChi, chair yoga, swimming and a games session. The group became my lifeline, and I feel safe that the Incurable Wonderful team exist for people like me who so often suffer from invisible chronic health issues. Thank you to Rocio and the team. ~ZM
